how it came
The Sidemount, now widespread in the world of diving thanks to the simplicity of the system and the ease of technique and comfort it offers, has origins in the 60s when, a group of English speleodivers began to use this technique to pass siphons and flooded tunnels and explore the most inaccessible areas of the English caves.
Compared to the classic configuration (backmount), the cylinders were positioned laterally above the legs, thus leaving the body more free and able to enter narrow tunnels.
The comfort of the system combined with its hydrodynamics meant that the Sidemount could be used not only for cave diving but also for open water dives.
